Dr. Martin is a professor and the founder and CEO of Waasinmi. She has over 20 years of experience in higher education and is a great resource for anyone who is looking for grant funding, interested in equitable research design, needs academic mentorship, a workshop leader, or a thorough review of a proposal.
Academic Bio
Dr. Martin is a Black Studies Africanist and women and gender studies scholar who holds a PhD in African American and African Studies from Michigan State University. She is currently in the department of History and Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Merced. Her research centers Nigerian women’s activism and intellectual history as well as the development of theory from within the African context. She is a Bill and Melinda Gates Scholarship alumna and has won several prestigious Fulbright awards in addition to receiving an honorable mention from the Ford Foundation for her research. She was also invited as a panelist for the 65th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in 2021. Dr. Martin mentors academics in the US and internationally and she recently co-founded an NGO to support college students in Nigeria.

Professional Skills and ExperienceDr. Martin has extensive experience in grant writing. Dr. Martin won grants from the Fulbright Program, US. Department of State, Michigan State University, and the University of California in addition to performing grant research for Cleary University, teaching grant writing for non-profits for Western Michigan University, and leading workshops on grant writing.
In addition she has years of experience assessing research designs and evaluating research proposals. She served as an area expert and proposal reviewer for the Mellon International Dissertation Fellowship as well as a Fulbright proposal reviewer. She has experience developing projects, building evaluation criteria, and leading project assessment for non-profits and universities both nationally and internationally. Dr. Martin also developed curricula for college and grade school students for both online and in person formats, and trained teachers. She has led a variety of workshops and is an engaging speaker/presenter. She continues to mentor students, researchers, PhDs and scholars nationally and internationally in research design, preparing job market materials, and proposal writing.
